How Much Is the Ephesus Entry Ticket?
Since March 2024 the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has set the entrance fees for foreign visitors in euros. Here are the 2026 prices in one simple table:

A few details worth knowing before you arrive:
- The €40 ticket covers the whole ancient city, and in 2026 it has also included the new Ephesus Experience Museum inside the site.
- The €15 Terrace Houses ticket is separate. You buy it at the booth in front of the Terrace Houses, inside the ruins.
- Children aged 8 and under enter free of charge — carry your child’s passport, because the staff may ask for proof of age.
- If you are visiting many sites across Türkiye, the Museum Pass Türkiye (€165, valid 15 days) covers the Ephesus entry, and the Museum Pass Aegean (€95, valid 7 days) is a good-value option for this region. Neither pass covers the Terrace Houses — that €15 ticket is always paid separately.
Where to Buy Ephesus Tickets
Ephesus has two entrances, and both sell tickets at the gate:
- The lower gate, close to Selçuk and the coach parks. Its ticket office is open from 08:00 to 19:00 in the summer season.
- The upper gate, on the Magnesia Gate side of the site. Its ticket office is open from 08:00 to 18:00.
The site itself opens every day at 08:00, and the last tickets of the day are sold at around 18:45 in summer. If you prefer to buy in advance, the Ministry also sells official e-tickets online through its own portal, muze.gov.tr. In summer 2026 Ephesus has also been opening for night visits from Wednesday to Saturday evenings, 19:00 to 23:00, with a separate evening ticket sold at the gate.
My honest advice as a local: in cruise season the ticket queues can grow long, especially at the lower gate between 09:00 and 11:00. Arriving right at 08:00, or holding an e-ticket before you arrive, saves you the longest lines.
How Can You Pay at the Ephesus Gate?
This is the part that surprises most of my guests, so please read it carefully:
- Credit and debit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are accepted and are the easiest way to pay.
- Turkish lira cash is accepted.
- Euro and dollar cash are not accepted at the state ticket offices, even though the prices are displayed in euros. Your €40 is converted and charged in Turkish lira at the daily exchange rate.
- American Express is generally not accepted, so bring a Visa or Mastercard as a backup.
Is the Terrace Houses Ticket Worth the Extra Fee?
After guiding here since 2008, my answer is a clear yes. The Terrace Houses are the homes of the wealthiest families of ancient Ephesus, built on the slope right beside Curetes Street and protected today under a modern roof. Inside you walk over glass walkways above original mosaics, and the walls still carry frescoes and marble panels in colours you will not believe are two thousand years old. For €15 it is, in my opinion, the best money you will spend in Ephesus — and on a hot summer day, the shaded roof is a welcome bonus. I have guided guests who almost skipped it to save time, and not one of them regretted going in.
