Gaius Laecanius Bassus of Ephesus was Roman senator served as a consul in the year 64 and he was the governor of Asia between 80 – 82. The reason why the Bassus fountain bears his name is simply because he allowed fountain’s construction. He made no financial contribution to Ephesus. Ephesus city council thanks Bassus for his permisson.
