Aydos Hill
It is the highest point in Istanbul with a peak height of 537 meters. Aydos Hill (Mountain), located in Kartal, Pendik, Sultanbeyli and Sancak Tepe districts, got its name from Aydos Castle, which was within the borders of today’s Sultanbeyli District during the Roman and Byzantine periods.
Name of Aydos comes from “Aetos”, which means “eagle” in Latin, and it is thought that the name of Kartal district, which overlooks the Sea of Marmara, came from here. It was used as a hunting garden during the Ottoman Empire era in Istanbul. This reveals how rich the forest consisting of pine trees was.
Aydos Lake
Aydos Lake, on the other hand, is located in a forest opposite the Aydos Hill. You also have the chance to see different lice covers and take plenty of pictures in the lake.
Aydos Castle
Aydos Castle in Sultanbeyli, Istanbul, has a history of approximately 1000 years. It was built in the period of the Eastern Roman Empire. It is thought to be in the 19th century. Aydos Castle, covering an area of 26,000 m2, the castle is located in the 325 m high extension of Aydos Hill. Two walls, internal and external; The castle, which has six bastions on the inner defense wall and seven on the exterior, is also known as the Goat Castle.
