Anna Katharina Emmerich lived between 1774 and 1824. She was a nun who was bedridden for years in the town of Dülmen which is in Germany. Anna Katharina Emmerich had visions since she was a little child. Although she could not have been to anywhere other than the Dülmen region she was born in, She explained the sacred city of Ephesus in detail. Also, she was very precise about distances between cities, customs of Ephesus and the clothing of the Roman times. Her visions aroused great interest in people.

Her visions were written down and turned into a book by the author Clemens Brentano. The title of the book was ‘’The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary’’ and it can be easily obtained at the House of Virgin Mary nearby Ephesus. Anne Catherine Emmerich was beatified October 3, 2004, by Pope John Paul the Second. Some of other visions inspired the book ”The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ” and the 2004 movie ”The Passion of the Christ” was based on this book.
